We are asking Frontline Healthcare Workers from around the World what keeps them going, what are the ways they have learnt to cope with and prepare for the extraordinary demands of their roles, what systemic changes will support them and their wellbeing. Here are some perspective-altering, awe-inspiring stories we are hearing…

An ASHA Worker from Siddipet in India shares with us what brings her to work every day and what she has to share with Community Health Workers like herself around the World.

“I first applied to be an ASHA Worker to support my family. As an educated person, I felt like I should find some work to support us and so for the sake of my children and their education, I decided to try for the ASHA position.
I’m proud to share that I was able to educate them – one of my children is in Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery, one studied in IIT Bombay, and the other completed a Pharmacy Degree. With much hope and determination, I kept working.
Despite having little support, I persisted in my work as an ASHA. I was told I should leave my work or I will be sent away to live by myself, yet I stood firm. I refused to quit my work.
Many in my village have been inspired in my village after having witnessed my family and how my children have progressed in life. “
